The Enterprise Companies
929 Units, 4 Stories
Chicago, IL

A residential development built within the historic walls of Chicago’s south Water Market. The six landmark buildings in this 929-unit residential loft conversion were formerly warehouse buildings that for more than seven decades served as Chicago’s wholesale fresh produce marketplace. This unique urban neighborhood features meticulously restored structures with intricately carved terra-cotta facades, enormous floor-to-ceiling windows, ceilings up to 12 feet high and gigantic column bays. The loading docks have been converted to private outdoor terraces, each including integrated planter boxes for street-side homeowners. A fourth floor addition built atop the original 3-story structure has been stepped back from the edge so the buildings keep their historical look while providing space for outdoor decks for the new residences. Triangular balconies are integrated into an open grid that mimic the warehouse canopy which once protected dockworkers and produce.
