The six landmark buildings in this 929-unit residential loft conversion were formerly warehouse buildings that once served as Chicago´s wholesale fresh produce marketplace. The project features meticulously restored structures with intricately carved terra-cotta façades, ceilings up to 12 feet high, and gigantic column bays. The loading docks are converted to private outdoor terraces, each including integrated planter boxes for street-side homeowners. A fourth floor addition built atop the original 3-story structure is stepped back from the edge so the buildings keep their historical look while providing space for outdoor decks for the new residences. Triangular balconies are integrated into an open grid that mimic the warehouse canopy which once protected dockworkers and produce.
