Situated in Iowa City´s renovated central business district, Givanni´s Italian Café, called for sophisticated yet casual ambiance. The space is a gutted turn of the century 19´ x 163´ slice of building. The character of the space is shaped by a layered soffit of drywall construction that races along the ceiling from the entrance to the rear. This form, echoed with strings of neon lighting colored for skin and food enhancement unifies the space and creates an eclectic drama within the brick and terra cotta walls. This bright and cheerful environment is further enhanced with colors and finishes that recall the fun and sophistication of Art Deco.
