1800 North Clybourn
Horwitz-Matthews
This adaptive reuse project involved the transformation of seven interconnected industrial loft buildings into an 180,000 s.f. retail center. The design solution economically utilizes the monochromatic but varied compositional character of existing background structures while new architectural devices draw the user through a variety of spatial and visual experiences. Placed within a 3-level core, retail becomes theatre through a playful topology of circulation devices and pictorial objects juxtaposed within the quiet background of the original structures.
