Lake Shore Drive Residence

This unique apartment is located in Benjamin Marshall’s 1913 Beaux-Art building, overlooking Lake Shore Drive and Oak Street Beach. The meticulously designed and detailed paneling, doors, trimwork, cornices and surrounds sustain the historic character of the residence and display an unusual wealth of craftmanship. The entire plan was reconfigured to reflect a more contemporary lifestyle while maintaining some of the formalism of the existing plan. Existing paneling in the library and living rooms were salvaged, replicated, and reworked to achieve the owners goals of opening rooms to each other, and to create a “gallery of rooms” that link the living room overlooking the beach on the north to the “winter garden” that faces south.
