Named in honor of an influential American educator, the Elizabeth Peabody Public School Building exemplifies Chicago architecture of the 1890’s. Distinguished for its finely-detailed and crafted ornament in stone, molded brick, terra cotta and decorative metal, the building was an early design by Chicago Board of Education architect, W. August Fiedler. The redevelopment plan for the historic structure includes the conversion to 27 apartment residences with on- site parking. The renovation encompasses the preservation and repair of historic features and includes the addition of a new roof level deck, repair and extension of existing stairs to the roof, and the addition of a new elevator that services all levels. Infrastructure modernization includes the complete replacement of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems and components.
