Since joining Pappageorge Haymes Partners (PH) in 2005, Jon has worked as an architect and project manager on a diversity of the firm’s most visible work. Recent award-winning projects on which he served as lead project architect include; the 65th Infantry Borinqueneers Apartments, an innovative affordable housing development designed to re-integrate at-risk veterans with their families and the community; The Stewart School Lofts, the renovation and conversion of the landmark Graeme-Stewart Elementary School (c.1907) to residential apartments, and most recently; the Park West Cooperative Nursery School, the adaptive re-use of a 3-story Victorian (c.1896) single-family home to a nursery school that accommodates sixty children and administrative space.
Jon’s core experience in adaptive re-use and historic preservation may also be seen in such celebrated projects as; Metropolitan Tower (310 S. Michigan Avenue), the historic redevelopment that transformed an obsolete office building into a residential mixed-use complex along the city’s Michigan Avenue “street wall” fronting Grant and Millennium parks; The Pomeroy Apartments, the LEED® Platinum renovation of a 1920’s limestone and masonry building for the Chicago Housing Authority’s flagship senior living center, and; Infinite Apartments, the redevelopment of three historic buildings (including the landmark Steger Building) in Chicago’s Loop into a mixed-use student housing and retail complex.
Project involvement outside of Illinois includes; The Collection, a new pedestrian-friendly residential mixed-use district located in Honolulu, Hawaii that includes high-rise, mid-rise, townhouse and commercial building components.
Jon’s community involvement includes a nearly fifteen-year tenure as a board member of the Grant Park Advisory Council, where he brought awareness of Open Space, Architecture and Urban Planning to the public by helping to organize symposiums and fostering public debate, leadership, discourse, and resolution on important civic issues.
