The firm’s most tenured partner, Ken offers unique expertise in the design and execution of technically complex projects, particularly in the category of adaptive re-use and historic renovation. His leadership on such projects as, The Midway Technology Center, the Armour Institute, Stewart School Lofts, the Motley School Apartments, the Peabody School Apartments, Residences at 202 E. Walton, ARC at Old Colony, Infinite at Steger Gibbons Apartments, Metropolitan Tower (Chicago), The Buckingham, and the LEED® Platinum Pomeroy Apartments, has been recognized with such distinguished awards as the J. Timothy Anderson Award for Historic Rehabilitation, the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Award, the Urban Land Institute Chicago’s Vision Award, and the Chicago Landmark Award for Preservation Excellence.
Early in his career, Ken was a part of the original Donohue Studio Group in Printer’s Row, founded by Harry Weese in 1977. He later worked with many local architects and artists, including: Holabird & Root, Ken Schroeder, Baus & Dring, Verginio Ferrari, and Robert Gordon. Prior to joining PH, Ken worked at H.S. Nathan & Associates as an engineering consultant specializing in electrical reconstruction and code compliance.
Ken presently serves an advisory panel to the AIA & City of Chicago that reviews building code and policy. He co-chaired the Existing Buildings Technical Working Group serving the City of Chicago Code Modernization effort in 2019. Additionally, he sits on the local Revere Park Advisory Council and is a member of the Spring Creek Stewards of Barrington actively working to restore 4000 acres of historic prairie. Presentations and Lectures include events for Landmarks Illinois, American Institute of Architects, Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley, Chicago Architecture Foundation, Open House Chicago, the Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat and the Barrington White House.
