GEORGE PAPPAGEORGE
Founding Partner, NCARB, FAIA
As Founding Partner, George has been the guiding spirit behind the firm’s signature aesthetic and divergent body of work since 1981. At the age of 39, he earned the distinction of being one of the youngest members to be elevated to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows. Under his leadership the firm’s work has won national acclaim for its transformative influence and has garnered numerous awards for design excellence.
Early in his career, he worked in Chicago as a designer and urban planner while learning the rigor of residential development through several small projects with David Haymes. By 1981, when both were in their late 20’s, he and Haymes decided to start their own firm. The firm’s innovative work on such projects as City Commons, Embassy Club and Willow Court inspired a new architectural language, expanding the growth of a new urbanism in neighborhoods both at home and in cities outside the Chicago area.
Known for his collaborative leadership style, creative design approach and genuine passion for improving the quality of life in urban environments, George continues to fuel the commitment of the firm’s new generation of talent. He provides design oversight on large-scale planning and significant residential, mixed-use and retail projects in locations throughout the United States. He has been named in Crain’s Chicago Business “Who’s Who in Chicago” each year since 2015.
