1400 SOUTH WABASH
105 Parking Spaces
3,327 Retail SF
A glassy 30-story tower consisting of 299 studio, 1- and 2-bedroom apartments is envisioned on a vacant lot along South Wabash Avenue in Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood. The residential development includes 3,327sf of retail on the ground floor and an on-site pocket park that activates the street scene and extends resident amenities to the public realm.
The tower utilizes a floor-to-ceiling window wall system with an accent pattern that subdivides the glass facade into smaller fields. Contrasting window bays that undulate in and out of the principal plane of the building reinforce the design pattern and provide texture to the facade. At the building’s podium, projected slab edge covers and vertical metal panels wrap the garage levels, providing a visual break from the glassy envelope of the tower. Extending toward Wabash Ave is the building canopy, signaling the location of the main entrance and ushering visitors.
